Buddhist Weddings in Samui

The Buddhist wedding is an entirely different type of ceremony than the one typically practiced in Western countries, but it is no less beautiful. Three Buddhist monks will be invited for the ceremony and will preside over the blessing. A string, called Sai Mongkon, is used to link the heads of the bride and groom to an image of the Buddha, which means that the individuals are now linked in their destinies. Then the monks will begin a chanting to offer their blessing to the two of you. Candles and incense will be lit by each person and there will be an opportunity for you to say prayers together and ask for good fortune. Finally the head monk will sprinkle water on each of your heads, which is a cleansing ritual symbolic of starting a fresh life together. You will then have the opportunity to make an offering to the monks (provided by us) to thank them for the ceremony.

Following the monk blessing, you will take your seats at the Lot Nam Sang (water blessing seat). Starting with the most senior representative of the wedding party, a floral Lei will be placed around your neck and the Water Blessing will commence. Each guest will show their respect by offering you words of congratulations with the water being collected in a bowl of ornamentally arranged flowers. Wedding vows and rings may be exchanged at this time (if desired).

In the evening you can enjoy a celebration dinner for the wedding party, if you choose, including a specially prepared menu by our Chef in our wonderful air-conditioned banquet room overlooking the sea. Beautiful flowers arranged on your bed will greet you when you finally make it back to your room at night.
